Training sessions at Chelmsford will last for 2.5 hours/day, Monday through Friday. This camp is right before the high school season, so it's a great opportunity to prepare for tryouts. Although players will receive the same excellent instruction as they do in the Full Day Camp format, there is only half the number of hours, so training cannot be as extensive as the full day sessions. Although, some time will be allocated for position training and team like drills and competition, less experienced groups will spend most of the training time on individual skills such as serving, passing, setting, digging, hitting, and blocking.
Campers will attend the session based on the highest playing level achieved at this point. Example: JVA players will sign up to play with other JVA players even though they will all be trying to make varsity this year. (see description below) Competitive players always want to move up a level. That’s good! Camp coaches are aware of that and will provide the appropriate level of intensity and teaching necessary to prepare you.
If you feel there are reasons why you qualify for a higher level, contact Karyn Altman, the Masspike Director. Usually approval will require a recommendation from the high school coach stating that the player will definitively be playing on the higher level team in the upcoming fall season or a club coach recommendation.
TEAMS - Players from the same teams may register together for the 9-11:30 session. (maybe even the noon-2:30) With permission of the camp director, Karyn Altman, teammates will be able to drill and play together during the camp session. Please call to discuss the possibilities if you are interested in team training at CHS. Register early, space for teams are limited at this camp site.
Below are the camp session time, with the experience required for each time slot:
